We are at a pivotal moment in leadership, where embracing a more invitational approach and fostering honest, transparent communication has become both timely and essential. This empowers us to lead with integrity, compassion and intention, catalyzing shifts in dynamics and results. The realization that traditional leadership methods no longer serve us opens a path to embody and articulate a new truth—one that aligns with a way of perceiving and acknowledging the impacts of power, connection and potential.

The Awakening of Common Sense

Contrary to popular belief, common sense is common.  In fact, it’s innate within all of us. It is also at the heart of this leadership evolution. The rediscovery of Common Sense — a synergy of logical reasoning, emotional intelligence, instinct and intuition — is critical. This collective intelligence is a vital tool for today’s leaders. It serves as a compass, guiding us to act as sovereign beings and independent power sources while remaining intricately connected to the united network that is the world we live in and serve.

The time has come to trust our innate guidance systems and intentionally develop them. Listening to and understanding the data that is collected and processed by our head, heart, gut and intuition needs to be a prioritized area of focus for leaders. By doing so, we reclaim our ability to lead from empowerment rather than control. This shift enables us to thrive and prosper as free-thinking, clear-acting individuals who are no longer dependent on dysfunctional structures and practices that can no longer support what we need and our highest good.

The Fall of Reliance-Based Systems

Our current systems of leadership and power, built on control and dependency, are faltering. These systems have long hijacked and sabotaged our sense of value, power and capacity to legitimately prosper. Leaders must recognize the need to step away from these limiting approaches, exposing and addressing control tactics that perpetuate imbalance.

Instead, we are being called to access our true power. This requires embracing natural systems and practices that align with our intrinsic knowledge of how to lead and coexist harmoniously. It is through this alignment that we can dismantle outdated structures and build environments and cultures that foster and require growth, authenticity and mutual respect.

Invitational Leadership in Practice

Invitational Leadership asks us to engage with others in a manner that is open, validating and inclusive. This approach acknowledges our shared humanity and the value of every person and perspective. By communicating and engaging in an invitational way, we:

  1. Create Space for Curiosity & Truth: Facilitate transparent, honest dialogues where diverse voices can be heard and respected.
  1. Empower Others: Shift from “power over” dynamics to creating opportunities where individuals can access, express and take responsibility for their own inner directives and power.
  1. Cultivate Genuine Connection: Lead with “common sense”- head, heart, gut, and intuitive intelligence – to build trust and nurture meaningful engagements and relationships.
  1. Model Sovereignty: Demonstrate self-leadership, accountability and healthy interdependence, inspiring others to do the same.
