Making Resolutions That Stick!

HomeBlogMaking Resolutions That Stick!

A couple of days ago, I was asked to co-facilitate a group training on setting & attending to yearly goals.  It got me thinking that, perhaps, it would be good to get something out about resolutions.

Seeing how we are now in January, let’s take a look at this time honored tradition of  New Year’s Resolutions.

A recent survey showed that less than 10% of the people polled were successful in achieving their resolutions.

So, why aren’t people able to stick with their resolutions and what can be done to help you break through and experience success with your goals?

Whether you want to lose weight, eat better, improve your communication with others or you need to make major changes in key areas of your life, what needs to happen to make 2017 a successful and fulfilling year for you?

I believe there are 4 main ingredients in setting resolutions that are more likely to stick.

They are:

  1. Honesty: are you truly ready to take on this goal (time, resources, level of discomfort, etc.)?
  2. Willingness to change: what stage of readiness are you in?  Thinking or action? What else might need to happen to make you feel ready to do what you haven’t been doing? Intention vs Delivery.
  3. Being realistic: what is feasible in the moment?  Breaking it down. Having a digestible plan.
  4. Values: determining your core values and seeing if your goals are in alignment with these. How we go about approaching our goals needs to be in integrity with our values.

When I had my blog talk radio show with friend and colleague, Rob Payo, we covered this topic and broke down the ingredients above.  I invite you to listen in for further focus and instruction on how to put these points to good use and make the stickiest resolutions of your life!
I wish you the best year ever and look forward to sharing more with you in 2017!
